Edge of the Wood Upholstery and Furniture Restoration was created by Gillian Munro after she decided to take voluntary redundancy from her career as a television film editor. Gillian took her upholstery hobby of 15 years to the next level and undertook an HND in Furniture Restoration at what was Glasgow Metropolitan College.  She graduated in 2003, having gained the prize for top student 2 years in a row.

Gillian set up her own one woman business in August 2003, initially working from home before moving to her current workshop in Croftamie.

She gained instant success and has built up a good customer base of private and commercial commissions, as well as a good working partnership with a number of furniture makers and interior designers. Her operational area extends throughout the West of Scotland and beyond. Indeed she has completed commissions for customers in America, Canada, Italy, Poland, as well as the length and breadth of Great Britain.

Since graduating, Gillian’s skills have also allowed her to teach upholstery as part of Furniture restoration courses in City of Glasgow and Forth Valley Colleges as well as evening leisure classes. 

Nowadays, Gillian is concentrating more on upholstery than full furniture restoration projects, but is always happy to help where possible.  Her portfolio contains many styles and designs covering a wide range of personal tastes and offers a sympathetic approach to restoration.

She aims to offer her customers a quality, personal service, with many returning to her with additional projects or recommending her work to friends.
